Jeremiah 3

This chapter is basically a continuation of our Lord's sadness because of the unfaithfulness Israel.

v. 5- "'Will you always be angry? Will your wrath continue forever?' This is how you talk, but you do all the evil you can."

This is such a slap in the face and an eye-opener for me. So often we wonder why we are in the bad predicaments that so often seem to find us... yet we don't even try to realize that we brought them upon ourselves! I don't have a ton more to say about this that I didn't already say in yesterday's post. It's just so humbling, honestly. My God does nothing but love and forgive me, yet I seem to find a way to blame all of my misfortunes and all of the consequences of my actions on Him! Probably because that's a lot easier than blaming myself.

v. 12- "'Return, faithless Israel,' declares the Lord, 'I will frown on you no longer, for I am merciful,' declares the Lord, 'I will not be angry forever.'"

Yes, our God is disappointed in our sin, but His mercy NEVER ENDS! We are never going to reach an age or a state of perfection while on this earth. God knows that. He created us. This of course is no excuse for sin, simply an encouragement that our Savior is going to redeem our lives from the pit over and over and over.... again (Psalm 103... Read it)! However, do not fail to remember that we are no longer slaves to sin. We are slaves to righteousness, and since that day when we became such, we have been granted the CHOICE not to sin. We have the Holy Spirit residing inside of us. He gives us that power and leaves us with the choice of whether we want to use it or not. Pretty great stuff.
