Jeremiah 4

v. 3- "This is what the LORD says to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem: 'Break up your unplowed ground and do not sow among thorns.'"

I don't know why, but this verse immediately caught my eye. There are so many talents and gifts that God has given us but we haven't even plowed that ground yet! I don't know about you, but I know that I want more than anything to discover ever one of the talents that God gave me! Also, there are gifts that my Lord gave me that I'm already aware of, but I don't use for His glory near as often as I should! I need to break up that soil and plant for His glory. I need to take a chance. I need to do something and do it to the best of my ability all for Him!

v. 30-31- "What are you doing, O devastated one?
Why dress yourself in scarlet
and put on jewels of gold?
Why shade your eyes with paint?
You adorn yourself in vain.
Your lovers despise you;
they seek your life.
I hear a cry as of a woman in labor,
a groan as of one bearing her first child- the cry of the Daughter of Zion gasping for breath,
stretching out her hands and saying,
'Alas! I am fainting; my life is given over to murderers.'"

Why do we put on these façades and masks? We are crying out for attention. Not just any idol or human's attention. We want the full attention of our loving Father and all-powerful Creator! We were made with a place in our hearts that can only be filled with that glory (like I talked about July 6). We go searching for this love and attention in what seems like every other place but our God sometimes. We go for the immediate, material items on stock while ignoring the everlasting joy that we KNOW can fulfill all of our deepest desires. I don't want to settle anymore. I want the real thing. I need the real thing.
