James 1:16-18

"Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created."

This is how this verse reads to me, "Don't flatter yourselves, Christians, you did nothing to deserve these amazing gifts and blessings! God gave them to you out of pure grace!" We are so eternally blessed and we have nothing to do with it. Honestly, to me, this is a huge encouragement! Because if my blessings depended on me, then we'd all be in big trouble. "Praise God from whom all blessings flow!"
