Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from the words of my groaning?
Psalm 22:1

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice,
"Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means,
"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
Mark 15:34

Jesus, the bearer of all sin. What exactly does this mean? That the guilt and shame and separation from God that each one of us deserve and receive from God after we sin (you know the feeling) was placed on Jesus when he was hanging limp and bloody on the cross. Each one of us. There are around 7 billion people in the world now. Plus the billions and billions before us. All of this sin was weighed upon the shoulders of our Lord whom came down from Heaven knowing He would only be mocked, beaten, and go through Hell. God is repulsed by sin. He is disgusted and disappointed. He is separated from all sin. That is why Jesus literally cried out those words that King David prayed centuries before. WHY have you forsaken me!? Jesus could have climbed off of that splinter-filled cross and killed all the men who ever mocked him and spit on him. But He didn't. Why? Love. He loved us. He loves us. He will love us. So much so, that He gave His LIFE for us. That is how Jesus defined love to His followers. "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13. The greatest sacrifice.
