Psalm 2 (Amplified Version)

1Why do the nations assemble with commotion [uproar and confusion of voices], and why do the people imagine (meditate upon and devise) an empty scheme?

2The kings of the earth take their places; the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and His Anointed One (the Messiah, the Christ). They say,

3Let us break Their bands [of restraint] asunder and cast Their cords [of control] from us.

4He Who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord has them in derision [and in supreme contempt He mocks them].

5He speaks to them in His deep anger and troubles (terrifies and confounds) them in His displeasure and fury, saying,

6Yet have I anointed (installed and placed) My King [firmly] on My holy hill of Zion.

7I will declare the decree of the Lord: He said to Me, You are My Son; this day [I declare] I have begotten You.

8Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations as Your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth as Your possession.

9You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces like potters' ware.

10Now therefore, O you kings, act wisely; be instructed and warned, O you rulers of the earth.

11Serve the Lord with reverent awe and worshipful fear; rejoice and be in high spirits with trembling [lest you displease Him].

12Kiss the Son [pay homage to Him in purity], lest He be angry and you perish in the way, for soon shall His wrath be kindled. O blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are all those who seek refuge and put their trust in Him!

v. 4- "He who sits in the heavens laughs..."
This gives me such peace about how our God has everything under control and planned out. He knows how each tribulation and struggle and joy and trial is going to work out already! We are such worriers are obsessed with figuring out the equation of His will for our lives for some odd reason. He laughs at this. I know that I have a hard time remembering that it's not in my hands, but His and I need not worry. Matthew 6:34 pleas, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." When you really think about it, worrying is such a waste of time, energy, and stress, yet we do it so much! This verse also just reiterates how He is in Heaven and we are not. That's why Jesus bids us to pray "Our Father who art in Heaven..." This just humbles us and reminds us of our position in this relationship. He is the all-knowing Father and we are His children. He is in control. He is working out everything for His greater glory and our greater good. But listen to this; this is how GREAT our God is: "You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great." He just loves us so much and wants to lift us up! He humbles Himself so that He can give us happiness, joy, and eternal life! Philippians 2:8 states, "And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!"

v.11- "Serve the Lord with reverent awe and worshipful fear; rejoice and be in high spirits with trembling [lest you displease Him]."
Awe. Worship. Fear. Rejoicing. High Spirits. Trembling. This is how we serve our God. There it is. Plain as day. I don't think anything else needs to be said about this except that I fail at this every day and our Lord is so amazing and constant in giving me His forgiveness that I don't deserve. Praise God!
