Isaiah 58: True Fasting
v. 3- "'Why have we fasted,' they say, 'and you have not seen it? Why have we humble ourselves and you have not noticed?'"
What is the point of fasting? To deprive ourselves of food and drink so that God can see that we love him? No. Fasting can be holding back from eating or something else we do often to bring our focus back to God, but it can also just be a state of heart. Verse 5 says, "Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, only a day for a man to humble himself?"Fasting is not about us. It is about humbling ourselves before our Savior and not expecting anything in return. However, the awesome thing is, that if we truly do humble ourselves and serve Him, then He will bless us!
v. 14- "then you will find your joy in the Lord, and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob."
If we serve the needy and help the oppressed and truly break ourselves before the Lord, then He wants to pour His blessings upon us! He knows our hearts inside and out. He knows what motivates us and when we are selfish. Serve Him with your heart and actions and He will bless you. I just know it. :)
